Study in France from Pakistan: Campus France and University Application Guide 2026

France educates over 400,000 international students and spends more per international student than almost any other country. The French government's philosophy of open borders for education creates genuine opportunities for Pakistani students who know how to navigate the system.

French University Fees for Pakistanis

Public French universities charge registration fees rather than tuition, typically €2,770 for undergraduate and €3,770 for postgraduate programmes per year. This is dramatically lower than UK, US, or Australian fees. However, most undergraduate programmes are taught in French, making language preparation essential for most Pakistani applicants targeting public universities.

English-Taught Programmes

Business schools (Grande Ecoles de Commerce) such as HEC Paris, ESSEC, ESCP, and Sciences Po offer many English-medium programmes. These are significantly more expensive than public universities, typically €15,000 to €35,000 per year, but are globally ranked and offer strong career networks. Engineering Grandes Écoles (Polytechnique, CentraleSupélec, INSA) are among the world's finest but are predominantly taught in French.

Campus France Pakistan

Campus France is the French government's official agency for promoting French higher education internationally. Pakistani students must register with Campus France Pakistan (operated through the French Embassy in Islamabad) before applying to French universities. The Campus France process involves creating a profile, uploading documents, and attending an interview. This is mandatory and cannot be bypassed.

French Language Requirements

For French-medium programmes, DELF B2 or DALF C1 is typically required. For English-medium programmes, IELTS 6.5 or TOEFL 90 is standard. French language training is available in Pakistan through the Alliance Française offices in Karachi, Lahore, and Islamabad. Many Pakistani students spend 12 to 18 months preparing their French before applying.

Scholarships

The Eiffel Excellence Scholarship Programme offers full scholarships (€1,181 per month living allowance plus health insurance and university fees) for Master's and PhD students. Charpak Scholarships are specifically for Pakistani students and cover partial tuition and living costs. Both are competitive but Pakistani students are eligible and applications are evaluated on academic merit.

Student Visa

The long-stay student visa (Visa de Long Séjour) is obtained from the French Embassy in Islamabad after Campus France clearance. Processing takes 3 to 6 weeks. France does not conduct the same aggressive credibility interview process as the UK, making the French visa generally more accessible for financially and academically prepared Pakistani applicants.
